When I first started taking pictures, I wanted to photograph anything EXCEPT people. I was terrified! I was so afraid I would make someone look bad and be so awkward in the process that I stuck with taking pictures of squirrels, flowers, and anything else I could find in my backyard.
That didn't get me very far, and it wasn't until someone asked me to take pictures of them that I was willing to give it a try. Soon there was another, and another, and before I knew it I was ONLY taking pictures of people and I was completely addicted to it - now I can't imagine doing anything else.
I think what attracts me to "people" photography, as I like to call it, is that you have the opportunity to capture something so real. Yes, the squirrel in my backyard is real, too... but there is something so special about capturing true emotion, deep love and pure joy, expressed by a person's face and body. I'm an extremely excitable person - I have experienced many highs and lows in my life, some to the extreme, and there is something so comfortable about tapping into the human emotion. I think that's why I have found myself in a position I once feared, once thought was so uncomfortable - it's now my livelihood.
Having been a bride myself (October 30, 2011) I have experienced the pure joy in being a bride and in marrying the love of my life. What I am so thankful for is that I can look through my wedding pictures and relive all of the same emotions I felt on the wedding day, and nothing else helps me relive the day quite the same. I love wedding photography because it allows me to give that same gift that I cherish so much back to my couples. I love to tell the entire story of the day, from the first curling iron to the exciting dash the bride and groom take toward their getaway car at the end of the night. My passion is to capture true joy, and the wonderful beauty of human emotion and feelings. To me, that is more beautiful than any landscape I could ever photograph.
I live in Reston, Virginia - just outside of Washington DC! I'm available for travel worldwide - shoot me an email!
